To sign up — with no obligation — just follow these step-by-step instructions.
To sign up, you will need to launch the program from the Windows 95 main menu by clicking on Start ╪ Programs ╪ Internet ╪ CompuServe.
The following window will appear:
Choose the SignUp icon by clicking on it.
Read the Signup text and click on Next.
Choose your country and click on Next.
Now choose the standard mode and click on Next.
If you are connecting from a different country than the United Kingdom, please select your country and the appropriate telephone number.
Check any applicable options (if any) and click on Next.
Select Auto Detect to find which communication port your modem is connected to and click on Next.
Click on Next.
Check the phone number and click on Finish.
Your computer will now continue the sign up process and will begin dialling the number to access CompuServe. Please make sure your computer is plugged into the telephone line. If the connection fails, please dial again, the lines may just be busy.
Select the access point with the speed rate of your modem and click on Next.
Verify the number and the city, choose whether to include or not the city code and click on Next.
Fill in this account billing information very carefully: this is required by CompuServe to process your application. This information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. If you decide to cancel your subscription during the trial period, nothing will be charged to your account.
Select the payment option you would like to use and click on Next.
Here is an example with a VISA card.
Please read the terms of the CompuServe agreement carefully as it is your contract with the CIS (CompuServe Information Service), then click on Agree, then Next.
The next screen provides you with your ID Number and your temporary password. Take note of these as you will need to type this information in the next screen. Keep your password in a safe place. Click on Next.
Type in your User ID, your temporary password, and you're ready. You can now access CompuServe either through Windows 95 by clicking on the CompuServe icon on the Desktop.
Your New Address:
Your User ID is also your CompuServe address. You can now send and receive e-mail to other CompuServe members, as well as others with an Internet address.
You can add this to your business card or your letterhead paper, if you wish.
2/3- HOW DO I GET TO COMPUSERVE?
For everyday use, you can access CompuServe by either the following way:
Once you have the main screen of CompuServe in front of you, simply click on the icon of your choice and your computer will initiate the connection.
NOTE
Always make sure your computer's modem is connected to the telephone line.
